With Spring Training rapidly approaching there comes with it an increase in baseball themed events around the Valley, some of which relate directly to SABR in general and our chapter in particular.
With these events comes the opportunity to represent the spirit of SABR by volunteering a few hours of your time. In return you’ll receive a complimentary dinner ticket, photo and autograph opportunities, advanced screening of auction items and the spirit of helping out a friend or two. If any of the following dates fit into your wheelhouse of interest, please consider donating a few hours of your time.
Dbacks Fan Fest: In the past we’ve had a booth at Chase Field as part of Dbacks Fan Fest. Your role as a volunteer is to promote the benefits of becoming a SABR member. Fan Fest this year takes place on Saturday, February 20th from 12-4 pm, if you’re interested in helping out contact Chapter President Rodney Johnson at email@example.com.
Arizona ML Alumni Fundraising Weekend: Through our partnership with the AZMLA our chapter members have been offered the opportunity to spend a day with former players at the prestigious Troon Country Club in Scottsdale. This year is the 30th anniversary of the Alumni Group, so an additional event has been added to help with the celebration.
On Sunday, February 21st from 7-10 PM there will be a welcoming dinner reception at the Wingate Recreation Center at the DC Ranch Resort in Scottsdale. Volunteers are needed beginning at 6-6:30 to help set up the items for the auction tables and with helping guests find their seats. In return you will be provided with a complimentary dinner ticket and are welcome to stay for the post dinner festivities.
On Monday, February 22nd is the Golf Tournament and Dinner Auction which again will be held at Troon Country Club. Volunteers are needed during the time frame when the golfers are on the course which in the past has been from 12:30 PM to approximately 5:30 PM. Following the tournament is the dinner and auction which lasts until 7PM and you will receive a complimentary ticket in return for your time.
In addition to the normal turnout of our friends like Jack Heidemann and Leon Brown, there are three confirmed Hall of Famers this year, so if you’ve ever wanted to rub elbows with a few of the greats of the game then both these events are for you. If you’re interested in either (or both) days, contact Chuck Johnson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Directions to Chase Field and the Alumni events will be posted soon to the Events page on our website along with updates as they occur.
